Well, we almost made it to September this year.
But as of yesterday, the Rockies have officially been eliminated from winning the NL West.
The Rockies are not eliminated from the playoffs – at least not yet.
But they can no longer win the NL West.
The Giants are just 2.5 games ahead of the Rockies, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing the same post about the Giants in a few days.
In case anyone was looking for some good news, this announcement means the Rockies have improved since last year.
I went back, and it looks like the Rockies were completely eliminated from the playoffs by August 25th.
As of today, the Rockies are still in the running for a playoff spot.
Well, not really. The Rockies are 20 games behind for a Wild Card spot, and there are only 28 games left this season.
But mathematically, it could happen.
Anyway, let’s jump into the Rockies news from this past week.

Rockies Won 2 Games This Past Week
Rockies were able to pull off 2 wins this past week.
And they’re dangerously close to being on pace to lose 100+ games this season…again.
A winning percentage of .388 means they would end the season at about 63-99.
If they want to be below 100 losses this season, they have 28 games left to win 11 games.
Seems like it’ll come down to the final few games of the season before we know whether they’ll end up losing 100 games.

Hunter Goodman Has Most Career Home Runs by a Rockies Catcher
Hunter Goodman is 26 years old and has played in 351 games with the Rockies…and he already has the most career home runs in Rockies’ history for catchers.
Pretty impressive!
Here’s a link to the two-run home run on Wednesday that put him on top of the Rockies’ leaderboard.
I also saw another impressive stat.
Here’s a list of every Rockies catcher who has had 30+ home runs in a season:
- Hunter Goodman – 36 in 2026 (so far)
- Hunter Goodman – 31 in 2025

Kyle Freeland Lands on 15-Day Injured List With Cervical Radiculopathy
“Cervical radiculopathy” is another word for a pinched nerve in the neck.
In the game last Wednesday, Kyle Freeland had to leave the game in the top of the 4th inning with neck tightness.
The Rockies tried to keep him off the injured list. But after Kyle Freeland threw a bullpen session, his shoulder didn’t feel right. So they placed him on the 15-day injured list.
Now that Michael Lorenzen was released and Kyle Freeland is on the injured list, here is what the Rockies’ starting rotation looks like:
- Tomoyuki Sugano
- Ryan Feltner
- Gabriel Hughes
- Mason Adams
- Tanner Gordon
Nothing has been announced yet, but if all goes well, Kyle Freeland will be available as soon as September 5th.
Kyle Karros Returns from the Injured List, Then Goes Back On the Injured List
Kyle Karros was originally on the 7-day injured list with a concussion after this collision with Ezequial Tovar on August 11th.
Eventually, he returned to the lineup on August 21st and played in two games.
But then, his concussion symptoms came back. And unfortunately, Kyle Karros went back on the 7-day injured list with a concussion.
For now, Willi Castro is playing third base.
No date has been announced for when we could see Kyle Karros again. But it should be sometime later this month or early in September.
Rockies Announce More Bark in the Park Games
Bark in the Park is a pretty popular theme night at Coors Field.
And the Rockies recently announced they’re adding two more Bark in the Park nights:
- September 22nd at 6:40pm against the Diamondbacks
- September 23rd at 6:40pm against the Diamonbacks
There are only 8 sections that are allowed to bring their dogs into Coors Field. 5 of them are in center field and the other 3 are in the Rockpile.
And anyone who wants to bring their dog will need to purchase a special theme package.
I checked and there are still some tickets available for each game.
