Last Friday and Saturday, the Savannah Bananas were playing at Coors Field.
And if you went, you got to watch Ryan Spilborghs and Garrett Atkins take an at-bat for the Savannah Bananas!
Nothing too crazy to report from these plate appearances, but it was pretty cool to see both of them get another chance of getting a hit at Coors Field.
Both of their at-bats are on Facebook for anyone who wants to see them.

And here’s Garrett Atkins plate appearance, where he was retired by the mascot – Peanuts the Elephant.
It will be interesting to see who the Savannah Bananas get to hit for them next year! I vote for Charlie Blackmon.
But anyway, let’s jump into the Rockies news from this past week.
Rockies Won 2 Games This Past Week
The Rockies only won 2 games this past week, and they’re still just 2 games away from not being in last place in the NL West.
The Rockies are also on pace to finish the season at 64-98!
This would actually be an accomplishment because the Rockies have lost 100+ games in a season for 3 consecutive years.
We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out, but it would be a nice change of pace to see the Rockies not get last place in the NL West and not have another 100-loss season.

Hunter Goodman on 10 Day Injured List With Left Shoulder Strain
On Tuesday, the Rockies finally placed Hunter Goodman on the 10-Day injured list.
Hunter Goodman injured himself during a swing on August 12th, and he initially thought he would quickly bounce back from it.
But the recovery didn’t happen as quickly as he hoped, and the Rockies needed another catcher to back up Brett Sullivan.
So the Rockies placed Hunter Goodman on the 10-day injured list to give him time to heal.
That move allowed the Rockies to call up Braxton Fulford to fill in as the backup catcher to Brett Sullivan.
Good news is that Hunter Goodman is expected to be back in the lineup this Tuesday.
Rockies Release Michael Lorenzen
Unfortunately, Michael Lorenzen had a pretty tough year pitching with the Rockies.
This year, he’s pitched in 26 games and went 3-11 with a 7.08 ERA.
On Monday, the Rockies designated Michael Lorenzen for assignment.
That meant the Rockies had a 7-day window where they could either trade him, place him on waivers so another team could pick him up, send him to the minor leagues, or release him.
On Wednesday, the Rockies ended up releasing Michael Lorenzen.
It doesn’t look like anyone has been called up to take his spot in the Rockies’ starting rotation yet.
Kyle Freeland Leaves Game With Neck Stiffness
Kyle Freeland has been having a pretty good month!
In August, he’s 2-0 with an ERA of 2.52 and 18 strikeouts.
But during the game on Wednesday, Kyle Freeland had to leave the game in the top of the 4th inning with neck tightness.
There hasn’t been any additional info since he was taken out of the game.
So for now, we just have to wait and see if he’s going on the injured list or if he’ll remain in the starting rotation.
Kyle Karros Expected to Return Today
Kyle Karros was placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion after this collision with Ezequiel Tovar.
And Willi Castro has been filling in at third base since that collision.
But the good news is that Kyle Karros has been progressing well, and he’s expected to be back in the lineup today.
Mark Manfredi Makes MLB Debut
Anyone remember the Antonio Senzatela trade before the trade deadline a few weeks ago?
Mark Manfredi was one of the prospects the Rockies received from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Antonio Senzatela.
And Mark Manfredi made his MLB debut on Wednesday against the Dodgers.
In that outing, Mark Manfredi pitched 1.1 innings, struck out 2 batters, and gave up no runs.
That’s a successful MLB debut!
Hopefully we continue to see more solid outings like this from Mark Manfredi.
Rockies Unveiling Larry Walker Statue on Sunday
This year, the Rockies are unveiling bronze statues of Todd Helton and Larry Walker four hours before two games.
The Larry Walker statue will be unveiled at 9:00am on 20th and Blake this Sunday, August 23rd.
The Todd Helton statue will be unveiled at 2:00pm on 20th and Blake on Saturday, September 19th.
And while I’m not seeing that you need tickets to attend the unveiling, the first 15,000 fans to each of these games will receive a replica statue!
