I’ve lived in Colorado for a while and I’ve been to quite a few Rockies games. The one Rockies promotion I’ve consistently seen is the taco special that fans can take advantage of. But I find that there are still a lot of people who wonder – what is the Rockies taco special?
The Rockies taco special is when fans can go to Taco Bell to receive a special deal on tacos. This special tacos deal is only available the day after the Colorado Rockies score 7 or more runs and the deal usually happens during a specified time (usually between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm).
The actual deal fans can get will vary from season to season, but this Taco Bell Rockies Special is usually better than anything you’ll find on Taco Bell’s normal menu. I remember in 2009 the Rockies taco deal was 4 soft-shell tacos or 4 hard-shell tacos for $1. That’s not the deal anymore, but that was a steal when they had it.
The Rockies Taco Special Deal in 2025

The Rockies’ Taco Bell deal in 2025 is that fans can get 4 tacos for $3 the day after the Rockies score 7 runs or more. This deal is valid whether the Rockies win or lose and it’s valid for both home and away games.
During the 2024 season, fans could get 4 tacos for $2 the day after the Rockies score 7 or more runs. So the prices have increased a bit.
4 tacos for $3 is still a good deal, though!
I also don’t eat at Taco Bell enough to know about all of their other deals, but I’ve heard Taco Bell has its own happy hour on drinks between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM each day.
So if you go to Taco Bell between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM for the tacos special, you could also get a medium drink for $1 or a Freeze for $1.
Sounds like a great deal! Just keep in mind that the deal only applies to fans who eat inside Taco Bell.
Here’s a List of All The Rules Around the Rockies Taco Special
To make it easier, here’s a list of all the rules I know around the Rockies taco special. Feel free to contact me if there’s something I got wrong.
- Win or lose, the Rockies must score 7 or more runs in a game
- The deal is good between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM the day after the Rockies score 7 or more runs
- This deal only applies to Taco Bells around the Denver Metro area
- Only valid at participating Taco Bells (some Denver-Metro locations don’t do this promo)
- Fans must order the taco special at the counter inside the store (no drive-through or third-party deliveries)
- The Rockies Taco Special can be won during both regular season and post-season games
How to Redeem Rockies Tacos
To redeem the Rockies Taco Special, walk up to the counter of a participating Taco Bell between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm the day after the Rockies score 7 or more runs and simply ask for the Rockies deal.
If for some reason they’re not offering the deal, they’ll let you know. But in my experience, most Taco Bells around the Denver Metro area will participate in this deal.
When Did the Rockies Taco Deal Begin?
I specifically remember getting the Rockies taco special in the summer of 2009 and I remember it being a big deal (or at least a big deal for me). So I know the Rockies taco deal has been around since at least 2009.
I also read another article that the deal started during the 2008 season. So it looks like the Rockies Taco Special began in 2008.
And while the specifics of the deal have changed over time, the deal has always been substantially better than what you can get off of Taco Bell’s regular-priced menu.
Rockies Average 39.12 Taco Games Per Year

Have you ever wondered how many times per year the Rockies score 7 or more runs and win their fans the Rockies Taco Special at Taco Bell?
I have. So I did some analysis.
Turns out, the Colorado Rockies averaged 39.12 taco games per year since they started with their deal in 2008. And the 2016 Rockies hold the record for most number of taco games with 50. That’s almost 1 out of every 3 games!
Below is a breakdown of their total number of Taco Games per year (where they scored 7 or more runs in a game).

What About Rockies Free Tacos?
One common misunderstanding I see is that people think the Rockies’ taco special has to do with free tacos from Taco Bell.
Unfortunately, the Rockies’ taco special does not include free tacos. Although, the Rockies Taco Bell deal is good compared to Taco Bell’s normally-priced menu.
I blame this confusion on how the Rockies market the taco special. You’ll usually see the Rockies broadcast a message like “5 more runs until we get tacos!” or they’ll post a message on X that says “Taco’s”.

If fans don’t know what that means, I can easily see how that gets confused with free tacos.
I wish the Rockies would work out a deal for free tacos from Taco Bell, but I guess I’ll also take 4 tacos for a couple of bucks whenever the Rockies score 7 or more runs in a game.
The Rockies Taco’s Deal is Spelled With An Apostrophe
Apparently, this is a long-running joke about the Rockies’ Taco Bell deal.
But it’s spelled “taco’s”, not “tacos”.
From what I’ve seen, this joke started from this tweet from 2009:

And for some reason, it’s turned into a long-running joke since that post. And it’s not even that funny.
But in case anyone was wondering, it’s spelled “Rockies Taco’s Special” (with an apostrophe in the word “taco’s”).
