Happy Friday!
I’m a little late to the party on this, but Chick-fil-A has been doing a Rockies promotion this month.
Apparently, if you wear any type of Rockies gear to Chick-fil-A, they’ll give you one of these Rockies cups for free.

Pretty cool!
And they’re only doing this giveaway on 3 Saturdays this month – September 5th, 12th, and the 19th.
Which means tomorrow is the very last day they are giving away a Rockies cup.
So if you’re already planning on going to Chick-fil-A tomorrow, make sure you wear some Rockies gear!
Now, let’s jump into the Rockies’ news from this past week.
Rockies Won 1 Game This Past Week

With 9 games left to go in the season, the Rockies would have to go 7-2 if they want to keep under 100 losses this season.
Which seems pretty unrealistic with how the end of the season has gone.
So the Rockies are looking at 4 consecutive seasons of 100 losses or more.
Here’s a quick list of the most consecutive 100-loss seasons in MLB History:
- Philadelphia Phillies had 5 seasons (1938 – 1942)
- Washington Senators had 4 seasons (1961 – 1964)
- Boston Braves had 4 seasons (1909 – 1912)
- New York Mets had 4 seasons (1962 – 1965)
And the Rockies will most likely be joining that short list of teams within the next week.
I also asked AI if the Rockies will be on this list, and AI seemed pretty confident:
“Yes, the Colorado Rockies are essentially locked in to join that list. As of today, the Rockies hold a 56–97 record. With only 9 games remaining in their regular season schedule, it is mathematically impossible for them to avoid losing 100 games.”
Mathematically impossible?
I think Gemini is a little off on that part, but probably not by much.

Kyle Freeland is Back from the Injured List
The last game Kyle Freeland pitched in was on August 19th, when he had to leave the game early due to an injury.
Turns out, it was cervical radiculopathy, which was a pinched nerve in his neck.
Kyle Freeland eventually pitched in a rehab game, but he was officially activated from the injured list on Tuesday.
And on Tuesday, Kyle Freeland pitched 4 innings in his first game back since the injury.
He gave up 3 home runs in those innings (all solo shots) and 1 strikeout.
Not the best way to come back from an injury.
The next time we’ll see Kyle Freeland start will most likely be on Tuesday, against the Diamondbacks.
Kyle Freeland Nominated for Roberto Clemente Award for 5th Straight Year

The Roberto Clemente Award is an annual award that is given to “the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”
Each team nominates one player, and this year, Kyle Freeland was nominated from the Rockies.
It’s actually his 5th year in a row being nominated. Pretty impressive!
Through his longstanding partnership with Special Olympics Colorado, Kyle Freeland and his wife, Ashley, have supported athletes with intellectual disabilities through fundraising, event participation and hands-on involvement.
For anyone who wants to read more, I’ll add a link here to his nomination on MLB’s website.
And for anyone who wants to vote for him, here’s a link to the Roberto Clemente Award voting page on MLB’s website.
TJ Rumfield and Jake McCarthy Are on Top of the MLB Leaderboard for Longest Active On-Base Streak
Even with the Rockies on pace to lose over 100 games, Jake McCarthy and TJ Rumfield have both been having good years.
And they’re ending it on a high note.
Both of them have been getting on base a lot. And both of them are pretty high up on the leaderboard for “Longest Active On-Base Streaks”.
Here is that current leaderboard:
- TJ Rumfield (Rockies) – 21 games
- Jake McCarthy (Rockies) – 20 games
- Coby Mayo (Orioles) – 20 games
- Carter Jensen (Royals) – 20 games
- Alec Bohm (Phillies) – 19 games
Elly De La Cruz was at 23 games, but last night he went 0-4 with three strikeouts against the Dodgers.
So now, TJ Rumfield is the current leader.
Cole Carrigg’s 13-Pitch At-Bat Ends With a Home Run
Cole Carrigg had an incredible 13-pitch at-bat the other night.
On Tuesday, Cole Carrigg came up to bat with the Rockies up 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th.
At this point in the game, Cole Carrigg needed a triple to complete the cycle.
Instead, he battled 13 pitches and absolutely crushed a 414-foot home run to right field.
Here’s a 37-second video on YouTube that shows each one of those 13 pitches.
In that game, Cole Carrigg ended up going 4-5 with 2 home runs, a double, a single, and 5 RBIs.
That’s quite the game!
Hunter Goodman is Day-To-Day With a Thumb Injury
During Monday’s game, Hunter Goodman’s right thumb got caught on the bag as he was sliding head-first into third from his triple.
He ended up exiting the game after warming up the following inning.
After making a throw to second base from the warmup pitches, Hunter Goodman knew he couldn’t continue and exited the game.
Since that game, he’s had an MRI and it came back normal. But he’s still been out of the lineup.
He’s just listed as day-to-day for now, so hopefully we’ll see him come back to the lineup soon.
I’d like to see him get to 40 home runs this year!
Fan Appreciation Fireworks are Tonight
Fan Appreciation fireworks are just like the fireworks the Rockies have for the 4th of July games.
Except this time, the fireworks are for celebrating Rockies fans.
And their fireworks shows are always great!
It looks like there are still some tickets available on Ticketmaster if anyone was looking for something to do tonight.
Just make sure to ignore the tickets that say they have an obstructed view of the fireworks!
Here’s a link to the tickets on Ticketmaster if anyone was interested in attending.
Todd Helton Statue Unveiling Tomorrow

The Rockies are unveiling a new Todd Helton statue tomorrow!
The statue will be revealed at 2:30pm, right outside Coors Field. And tickets to the game are not required to be there for the unveiling of the statue.
However, the Rockies will be giving away a replica Todd Helton statue to the first 15,000 fans that enter the game for the 6:10pm game that evening.
And, 17 random fans will be winning one of these replica statues that is also signed by Todd Helton!
