Penner Sports Group to Become Rockies’ Majority Owner in 2027

It’s official.

As of Sunday, the Rockies are eliminated from the playoffs.

And, they were the first team to be officially eliminated from the playoffs this year.

I’m sure this news comes as no surprise to anyone. But at least the Rockies made it all the way to September before getting eliminated, right?

Last year, the Rockies were eliminated from the playoffs on August 24th.

But anyway, let’s jump into all of the Rockies’ news from this past week.

Rockies Won 1 Game This Past Week

The Rockies had a pretty rough week.

Their only win came against the Cardinals, and then they got swept by the Yankees.

The Rockies have 16 games left this season. And they’re on pace to finish 61-101.

That means they’ll need to go 7-9 for the rest of the season if they want to lose less than 100 games.

But the chances are pretty good that the Rockies will lose at least 100 games this season, and have four consecutive seasons of 100 losses or more.

Here’s a quick recap of the Rockies’ games from this past week, but hopefully the next story cheers up some fans.

Penner Sports Group Expected to be the Majority Owners of the Rockies

This is easily the biggest news from this past week. And it’s news that a lot of Rockies fans have been dreaming about for a while.

Woody Paige posted this article on the Gazette that states the Penner Sports Group is expected to purchase an additional 35% ownership after the MLB’s collective bargaining agreement is settled.

Probably sometime in 2027.

In April of this year, the Penner Sports Group purchased 40% ownership in the Rockies. Making them the biggest minority owner of the Rockies.

This additional 35% would give them 75% ownership, giving them majority ownership of the Rockies.

After this deal, the Monforts are expected to keep about a 20% minority ownership of the Rockies.

Hunter Goodman Looking to Make History with 40 Home Runs

Hunter Goodman finishing a swing

Hunter Goodman currently has 37 home runs.

If Hunter Goodman reaches 40 home runs, he will become the 6th catcher in National League history to hit 40 or more home runs in a season.

Pretty great milestone!

Here’s a list of the National League catchers Hunter Goodman could join with 40+ home runs in a season:

  • Roy Campanella (41 home runs in 1953)
  • Johnny Bench (45 home runs in 1975 and 40 home runs in 1972)
  • Todd Hundley (41 home runs in 1996)
  • Mike Piazza (40 home runs in 1997 and 1999)
  • Javy Lopez (43 home runs in 2003)

He has 16 games left to hit 3 more!

Willi Castro on 10-Day Injured List With Left Heel Inflammation

Willi Castro hasn’t been in the Rockies’ lineup since August 31st, against the Orioles.

He was examined on Friday and officially placed on the 10-day injured list with left heel inflammation.

Willi Castro also mentioned his right knee is sore.

So, Willi Castro is officially listed as being on the Injured List due to left heel inflammation, but it’s really a combination of his left heel and his right knee.

The move to place him on the injured list was retroactive to September 2nd. So the earliest we could see Willi Castro back in the lineup would be tomorrow, against the Mariners.

Kyle Karros is Back in the Lineup

Kyle Karros has been dealing with a concussion since he ran into Ezequial Tovar on August 11th.

He briefly came back for two games, but then went back on the injured list to give himself time to recover from that concussion.

Kyle Karros finally made it back into the Rockies’ lineup on Tuesday and he said he’s feeling like himself again.

On Wednesday, Kyle Karros hit a triple. And yesterday, he absolutely obliterated this 431-foot home run against the Yankees.

Good to see him back in the lineup!

Charlie Condon Hits Two Grand Slams in the Same Game

Charlie Condon is the Rockies’ #3 overall prospect and he’s currently playing on the Rockies’ triple-A team, the Albuquerque Isotopes.

At the beginning of this season, there was some chatter around whether or not we would see him make his MLB debut.

And that chatter came back when Charlie Condon hit two grand slams in the same game on Sunday.

Here’s the video of his first grand slam, which put the Isootopes up 5-3.

And here’s the video of his second grand slam, which put the Isotopes up 10-6.

There are still a few weeks left of the season for him to make his MLB debut!

Todd Helton Statue Unveiling Next Saturday the 19th

Todd Helton replica statue

The Rockies are unveiling a new Todd Helton statue next Saturday, the 19th.

The statue will be revealed at 2:30pm, right outside Coors Field. And tickets to the game are not required to be there for the unveiling of the statue.

However, the Rockies will be giving away a replica Todd Helton statue to the first 15,000 fans that enter the game for the 6:30pm game that evening.

It looks like tickets are still available for anyone interested in going to the game.

Here’s the link to that game on Ticketmaster for anyone interested.
