Today marks the first day of Spring Training games!
And while that is exciting news, my favorite story that came out of Spring Training was about the transformation of Zac Veen.
Last season, Zac Veen made his MLB Debut at the beginning of the season. But after playing 12 games, he was sent back to the Rockies’ minor league system.
Turns out, Zac Veen was struggling with addiction.
So he ended up doing two things this past year – he got sober, and he put on over 40 pounds of muscle.
And now, he looks like a completely different person.
I thought this clip on Facebook from theScore did a great job of explaining Zac Veen’s transformation as well as showing before and after pictures.
It’s a pretty incredible transformation! And I’m excited to see how his transformation plays out on the field.
And now, let’s jump into the rest of the Rockies news from this past week (it was also a slow news week).
Rockies Have a Projected Lineup for Opening Day
Opening Day is a little over a month away, and the Rockies already have a projected lineup.
The MLB posted this picture on X that shows what the Rockies’ starting lineup could look like.

There’s still a lot that can happen between now and opening day, but I like that we already have a preview of how the Rockies could structure their lineup.
I also thought Hunter Goodman would be hitting third, but the cleanup spot works too.
Germán Márquez Signs With the San Diego Padres
Germán Márquez pitched for the Rockies for 10 years and is the Rockies’ all-time strikeout leader.
But at the end of last season, he elected to head to free agency to explore other options.
This past week, we learned that Germán Márquez signed a one-year deal with the San Diego Padres for $1 million.
It’s sad we won’t see him in a Rockies uniform this season, but hopefully he dominates in San Diego.
I checked, and the first time the San Diego Padres come to Coors Field will be a 3-game series starting on April 21st.
So there’s a good chance we’ll see him pitch against the Rockies on one of those days.
