Happy New Year!
Since we’re in the middle of the holiday season, there wasn’t too much news this past week.
But I did see that Sarah Langs posted this article about one amazing stat from eachMLB team from the 2025 season.
And even though the Rockies had a historically bad year, they made the list with one incredible win they had on August 1st.
That was the game where they gave up 9 runs in the first inning against the Pirates, but then they came back and somehow pulled out a win, 17-16.

The Rockies are the 6th team in MLB history to win a game after giving up 9 or more runs in the 1st inning.
The other five teams to achieve this were:
- Cleveland Indians on 8/23/2006
- Philadelphia Phillies on 6/8/1989
- Philadelphia Phillies on 9/30/1913
- Cincinnati Reds on 5/17/1896
- Cleveland Blues on 6/21/1884
Pretty cool stat!
It’s just too bad the rest of the season wasn’t as exciting.
But now, let’s jump into the slim news from this past week.
Trade Rumor: Nick Castellanos to the Rockies
Nick Castellanos is the 33-year-old right fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, and there have been some rumors floating around that the Rockies would be a great fit for him.
Nick Castellanos won the Silver Slugger award in 2021. And while he’s never won MVP, he did receive votes for MVP in two separate seasons – 2021 and 2023.
His offensive production did slide a bit last year, but he would still be a valuable veteran player to the Rockies’ roster.
We’ll just have to wait and see if this is just a rumor or if this trade will actually happen.
Larry Walker Coming to Rockies Fest
Rockies Fest is Saturday, January 24th, at Coors Field, and the Rockies recently announced that Larry Walker will be there!
I couldn’t find any info on whether he’ll be doing autographs or participating in one of their other events, but he’ll at least be there.
If you’ve never been to Rockies Fest, it’s a lot of fun and it’s relatively cheap! I went a few years ago and it was a blast.
Tickets this year are $5 for season ticket holders/mini-plan holders or $10 for the general public. Autograph tickets are an additional $5.
It’s a great opportunity to see the clubhouse for the Rockies and the visiting team, see how their batting cages work, attend Q&A sessions with players and staff, and just get more of an inside look at how Coors Field operates.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on 1/7 if anyone is interested in going.
My guess is that the link to the Rockies Fest tickets will be available on their Rockies Fest page on MLB.com.
Prospect Spotlight: Carson Palmquist (Rockies #13 Prospect)
Each week in the off-season, we’ll cover a top prospect from the Rockies, so you’ll know who to watch as they make their way to the big leagues.

Current Team: Colorado Rockies
Drafted: 2022
Age: 25
Position: Starting Pitcher
Bats: Left-handed
Throws: Left-handed
Carson Palmquist made his MLB debut last year, but he hasn’t established himself as a regular MLB player, so he’s still listed as the Rockies’ #13 prospect.
Last season, he bounced around between pitching for the Rockies and pitching for the Rockies’ AAA team, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
So far, he’s started in 7 games for the Rockies. He’s gone 0-4 with an 8.91 ERA.
Overall, he’s done a bit better in the Minor Leagues.
In the 73 minor league games he’s pitched in, he’s 18-17 for a 4.12 ERA and 373 strikeouts.
There hasn’t been much news about him this offseason so it’s hard to tell how he’s been progressing, but he’s still listed on the Rockies’ 40-man roster.
He’s not listed as part of the Rockies’ starting rotation, though.
But, the baseball season is long, which means there is a good chance he’ll get additional opportunities to pitch at Coors Field again, even if he doesn’t make the 40-man roster for opening day.
Chances are, we’ll have to wait and see how he does in Spring Training before we know where he’ll end up at the beginning of the season.
That wraps up this week’s short newsletter. Hope everyone has a great week!
